Portland, OR - The weekly 2012 Thursday Night Track series is set to kick off Thursday, May 3rd. A long time staple of the Alpenrose Velodrome calendar, Thursday Night Track offers riders a chance to hone their track racing skills throughout the season by offering a variety of events in a competitive and fun atmosphere.
The month of May features timed events in the first three weeks. The first week is shorter timed events such as the 500m and 1,000m (Kilo) for all racers. The next two weeks will feature longer timed events including 2,000m and 3,000m pursuits. All riders are permitted to ride timed events.
Mass start racing begins in the fourth week with the first night of omnium racing. Racers will go through three rounds of racing during the evening with each round featuring a different event. The final Thursday in May will feature a long points race for each category.
Kids will be able to start participating June 7 with the first kiddie kilo. Kids aged 2-13 will kick off the night's racing by taking the the flat apron of the velodrome and completing one to three laps depending on age and ability.
The Thursday Night Track series will continue until the final Thursday in August.
